Cinque Terre means "five lands" and is literally made up of five tmall towns that hug the southern part of the Ligurian Coast. The 5 different towns are each built between the beach and the hills helping to protect the national park and coast line.
To travel through the Cinque Terre you can hike, take a train, or a ferry. Some of the hiking trails were closed because of flooding, but we still took part in all three methods of transportation.
Of the five lands my favorite was Monterosso because of its huge beach. All of the buildings in the 5 different areas are all painted different colored pinks, yellows, and turquoise which gave off a real Caribbean feel. Pesto sauce was first created in the Cinque Terre so we all got to try it at lunch. Even though we were up north I still got burnt like a lobster and am now hurting. It was such a nice change to be on the beach and under the warm sun.
We had so much fun and are going to go back again for a night in the first week of May.

Not sure if you still read the comments, but if you do - how does Cinque Terre compare to the Amalfi Coast?
